Around 1.5 billion kWh of energy is wasted by computers and monitors being left on in the UK – that's approximately £115million or 700,000 tonnes of carbon. This waste can easily be avoided by using energy saving devices like ecobutton™. It connects to your PC via a USB cable. Each time you take a break, a phone call, go for a meeting etc. simply press the illuminated button and your computer is put into 'ecomode' ensuring that your PC and monitor draw only the same power as when they are shut down! By pressing any key on your keyboard your computer instantly returns to where you left off. The software records how many carbon units and how much power and money you have saved. A small to medium sized business running 50 computers could save around 6.80 Tonnes of CO2 and over £2000 per year of electricity by using the ecobutton™ for just 2 hours per day per PC. Requires a PC running Windows 2000, XP or Vista 32 bit, 5Mb of free disk space and a minimum of 256Kb RAM.
